JW's are slaves- but not in a good way
by joey jojo ini was reading about the american slave trade again recently.
as anyone who has read anything about the subject knows, it makes for very uncomfortable reading.
every time i read the history, i'm left with a sense of outrage and seething anger at the pure inhumanity and injustice of what life must have been like for those people.

My understanding of indentured servants was that they were working off debt. Once the debt was paid, they were free to leave. Some chose to stay and continue in their position as they would any other job. -

There is No Way Out For Me
by Addison0998 ini have come to the conclusion that there is no way for me to ever leave.
although i have some friends at work, my whole social structure are witnesses.
even if i move congregations, my parents have contacts everywhere who will tell them if i’m not active.

I understand your situation. My recommendation is a long fade. If you aren't depressed, you can fake it. Depression is one of the only reasons JWs will accept for fading. The sooner you can move out, the better it will be. Letting go of family is hard, and everyone does it to a greater or lesser degree.I've been out over 10 years and am still letting go bit by bit.
I will say though, the more that you disconnect from the JWs and realize how unhealthy it is, the easier it will be to make friends on the outside and to build a real life. It isn't easy, but I can assure you it is worth it and you will be a lot happier. The younger you are when you do it, the better. It's a hard realization at 46 that I have wasted so much of my life trying to please people in a cult. So. Not Worth. It.
You've got lots of support. Do as much as you can without raising too many red flags. But I'd say start planting the "i"m mentally ill" seeds now. It is one of the only ways out.

by poopie inproblem with this week's video on counsel.
why did they emphasize the counsel and not the fact that those who were watching movie should have followed christ counsel at mathew 5 go to your brother instead they ratted on the guy to an elder and let him do dirty work.wow just totally ignore jesus words..

This is why, if I ever lost my senses and went back, I wouldn't talk to anyone about what I watch or read or thought - EVER. It is a police state, not unlike a communist country.

To be accepted as part of the group you are consistently required to substitute someone else's judgement for your own. Period.

Jehovah's Org is progressive - the wheels of the Chariot turn on a dime....turns out the internet is not as dangerous as once thought.....so 20 years after everyone else is online, they can't be left behind. hahahahahaha

Withdrawing community support in the congs
by purrpurr ini've noticed in the past 10 years that the social support that used to be available in the congs, a shoulder to cry on, elders to help with family/marriage issues these seem to have been purposely withdrawn.
counsel is even heard from the platform that the elders are not there to help people with their problems.. so first in the 80s-90s they take away the congregation get to getters and social events and now they seem to be going one step further in taking away the emotional support for people too.. this will take away an aspect that i'm sure was keeping alot of people in the borg, the community support.
if that's not there and its just about meetings and ministry how many will start to get their emotional support elsewhere?.

Let's talk business ...
by dubstepped ini am thinking that this could be an interesting topic.
most of us never had a chance to go to college, many of us were involved in various service industries like cleaning and such, and we have had some limitations placed on us.
so i thought it might be interested to see what has worked for people, what hasn't, what the progression has been, where people went wrong and where they got it right.

hitting the wall and going to the hospital looks like not being able to move off the couch and then over dosing on pills. I was in and out of the hospital November - January. I'm still working on getting stable.
If you can, put in some stop gaps before you work yourself to the point that you can't function.

I've had several businesses. The most successful one, I recently closed after 12 years. I coordinated disability accommodations like sign language interpreters, real-time captioning, converting books into braille, etc. As small, women owned businesses go, it was highly successful. It was a lot of work for me to do on my own for so many years and I finally hit burn out this past fall and ended up in the hospital.
I am now going back to school and deciding between architecture and engineering at the age of 46.
I have to say that it has been hard for me to go back to school and decide what to major in - part of my struggle is I am interested in so many things, but the other part is getting over the mindset of "waiting for the end to come". In many ways it is a huge mindfuck because when I look at the future now, it is blank.
Anyone else have that experience?

wouldn't a database like this make it easier to take the organization down because you have the identities of everyone in the organization? For example, if their persecution scenerio ever came true in the US, wouldn't this just make taking everyone to jail that much easier??
